When we think of creating a web page , one of the first options that comes to mind is Wix .

That’s when we try to create a website with tools like Wix , theoretically free. What happens is that with the passage of time we realize that it is not the best option.

Why NOT use Wix to create your website
Now I’m going to list here some of the reasons why you should NOT make your website with Wix (or other free or pseudo-free platforms):
#1. Cheap is expensive
✘ WIX OPTION:
Wix offers you everything from free packages to various payment options.
The free plan does not give you the option of your own domain and it will also show Wix advertising on your website. Below I detail these two points.
In the pack of € 4.50 / month for “standard” websites they offer you 1Gb of transfer, or what is the same, of traffic on your website.
If at any time your website grows in visits, this capacity will be insufficient. In addition, you only have 500Mb of storage, something quite fair.
In the next pack, € 102 / year , they raise the transfer to 3Gb, but… do you think that more than € 100 a year is enough?
Also, if you have a large business or an online store , the starting price shoots up to € 204 per year.
And let’s not talk about adding new features to your website …
If at any time you want to add some important functionalities that Wix offers you , such as being able to add the Google Analytics code or the Facebook Pixel , you will have to checkout (I will tell you more in detail below).
If you start adding things that you didn’t have at first, your price will skyrocket in the end.
ALTERNATIVE:
The best and cheapest option is undoubtedly WordPress.
Yes, yes, I said the MOST ECONOMIC.
To have a website in WordPress , for 70-90 euros a year that the hosting and domain will cost you, you will not need to continually checkout.
#2. Free = You do not have the right to own domain
✘ WIX OPTION:
It is important that you know that if you hire a free package from Wix you are bound to have a domain that does not belong to you.
Wix will offer you a domain with this structure: ” yourweb.wixsite.com “.
With that domain that, for calling things by name, is a subdomain, you will not go anywhere, because it does not belong to you and depends on the domain wixsite.com , which is theirs.
In addition, all the positioning you get in search engines with the subdomain is being taken by Wix.
ALTERNATIVE:
If you set up your website in WordPress , you only need to hire hosting and buy a domain. In this way, the domain will be yours forever (as long as you pay for it year after year, of course).
#3. Some plans show advertising and the Wix logo on your website
✘ WIX OPTION:
The free Wix pack and the first of the paid packs, 54 euros per year , contain advertising on your website, in addition to displaying the Wix logo so that everyone knows that your website is made with them.
ALTERNATIVE:
No template or WordPress theme will add advertising to the frontend of your website.
At most, if you use free tools or plugins, you will see ads in your dashboard, but your visitors will NEVER see them.
#4. The website is not yours. If you go, you lose it.
✘ WIX OPTION:
If you create your website with Wix and at some point you want to switch to WordPress, Joomla or Drupal, for example, or even to another similar provider such as Weebly or GoDaddy, you should know that you will NOT be able to migrate your website.
You have lost it and will have to recreate it from scratch on any other platform.
This point is VERY IMPORTANT .
Nor will you be able to take the web to another hosting provider (web hosting); You can only have it hosted on Wix , obviously.
If one day you stop being happy with them or want to change to another provider, you can do it, but lose everything.
ALTERNATIVE:
With WordPress you can host the web in the hosting you want, such as Raiola , Webempresa or Lucushost and if you are not happy with something, you can change whenever you want.
In my case I have already changed hosting 2 or 3 times; Sometimes it has been because I was not happy with the customer service and others because in another they charged me less for a higher service.
If you are in Wix and you wanted to take advantage of another provider’s offer, you could not leave because you would lose everything. With WordPress, you can change your hosting whenever you want.
#5. If you want to change templates in Wix, you lose everything too

Although it seems incredible, not even within Wix itself you have “ freedom ”.
Imagine that you have chosen one of the Wix templates and after a while you decide to change it, because you have bundled it, because you will have to make your website 100% again.
Wix does not allow you to change templates and keep content even within its own platform.
ALTERNATIVE:
I use the OceanWP WordPress theme for the structure of the web and the Elementor web builder to design everything to my liking. If I wanted to change the theme / template, I wouldn’t lose ANYTHING .
